Clinical Decision Making

Presented by: Debbie Ringdahl, DNP, RN, CNM

The principles of integrative nursing provide a framework that can facilitate the teaching of clinical decision making. A major challenge in clinical settings is symptom management. In this recorded session, the principles of integrative nursing are used to illustrate how both staff nurses and advance practice nurses can skillfully move from less intensive/invasive interventions to a method that relies more on the patient’s needs/context. Innovative educational strategies are discussed and include an immersion experiential learning session in a CAM institution that was funded through a HRSA grant and an easy to use online tool that can be used to create realistic scenarios.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss how integrative nursing principles can guide clinical decision making to improve symptom management
  2. Describe a model for teaching integrative nursing in an interprofessional setting
  3. Demonstrate the use of an on-line tool called storyline that can be used to create engaging, real-life patient scenarios
