Nanomedicine: An ‘Elegant Solution’ for Homeopathy
August 1, 2016
An elegant solution is a term used in mathematics and software development that refers to a solution that solves a problem in the simplest, most effective way.
In light of the increase in consumer demand for homeopathy, the problem to be solved is explanation of the action of homeopathy, an adaptive network nanomedicine. The elegant solution is a model for homeopathic remedy effects that is consumer pertinent. The parallels between developers creating code for software systems and homeopaths creating code for the complex adaptive network systems that we define as human beings is striking. The elegant solution for both include two specifications. The first: initial loading time must be minimal; that is, the software does not abuse computer resources. The second would be that the software must achieve the desired result using optimal algorithms that guarantee the best efficiency of computer resources -- one where objects are grouped according to a logical hierarchy based on function. An elegant solution for homeopathy must include both of these specifications and beyond. In homeopathic prescribing, one of the fundamental laws is to use the minimal dose to stimulate a complex adaptive response over the entire self-organizing system in a rapid, gentle manner that does not abuse the resources of the human who is suffering. First, do no harm. Accordingly, for the elegant solution to be met, the totality of symptoms expressed by the person, in function and sensation, are grouped according to a logical hierarchy. Homeopaths call this algorithm totality of symptoms. Creating a code for the complex adaptive network system that we call humans requires analysis of the algorithm, arriving at the clinically optimal homeopathic remedy, and the simillimum. The premier homeopathic researcher, Iris Bell, MD, and her colleagues at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine describe the elegant solution for homeopathy as nanomedicine in her research paper, Testing the Nanoparticle-Allostatic Cross Adaptation-Sensitization Model for Homeopathic Remedy Effects (Bell, I. research). In her groundbreaking research, Dr. Bell identifies human beings as complex, adaptive network systems and homeopathic remedies as adaptive network nanomedicine. The elegant solution to explaining homeopathic remedy action that she proposes is based on four principles:- Homeopathic remedies are highly reactive source nanoparticles, not bulk form drugs.
- The homeopathic similimum remedy nanoparticles serve as low level, but highly salient, novel stressors to the organism.
- As a low intensity stressor, remedy nanoparticles stimulate changes in the opposite direction to those of the higher intensity stressors that fostered the original development of disease. The disease-related maladaptations prime the system. Then, the correct remedy in low dose elicits reversal of direction of the maladapted process.
- The adaptive changes that the remedy evokes ultimately strengthen systemic resilience.
