Knowledge without tools and skills is like giving someone a box of nails without a hammer and telling them to build a house. Most people know they should be eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Giving them a list of foods or solely providing counseling on macronutrient balance alone is not enough to promote behavior change. Patients don’t eat paper and patients don’t eat carbs, proteins, and fats. They eat food – so having a conversation around food selection and preparation can be a turning point in achieving and maintaining healthy eating habits.
Presented by: James Gordon, MD
A renowned expert on trauma, James Gordon, MD, founder and executive director of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C., has created and implemented the world’s largest and most effective program for healing population-wide trauma. Over the last several years, Gordon’s work has expanded to help governments deal with long-standing, lethal hatred, and division. In 2019, he and South Sudanese human rights lawyer Anyieth D’Awol were able to bring his approach to rival factions, leaders of the Women’s Union, and civil society groups that are struggling to create a new government in war-devastated South Sudan. In this session, Gordon will discuss the use of self-care and group support to cultivate inner peace as a precursor for peace between warring parties in South Sudan.
